CPC certification (Children’s Product Certificate) is a safety assessment and certification for products that are mainly used by children 12 years old and under. The certificate originates from the mandatory regulations of the United States for children’s products, CPSIA (Children’s Product Safety Promotion Act): children’s product manufacturers (referring to domestic manufacturers in the United States) and importers (in the United States) must prove in a written Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) that their children’s products comply with applicable children’s product safety regulations based on the test results of laboratories approved by the CPSC.
The CPC certification test content mainly involves the material, design, safety performance and other aspects of the product to ensure that the product complies with applicable children’s product safety rules and other laws and regulations. CPC certification is not issued by an organization, but in the form of a self-declaration, which is drafted and fully responsible by the manufacturer or importer. Therefore, the manufacturer or importer needs to ensure that the product complies with all applicable standards and regulations, and test and audit the product by itself. When listing child-related product categories on Amazon US, including toys, baby products, etc., CPC certificates will be required, otherwise they will not be sold.
I. Specifically, the CPC certification standards for children’s clothing include the following:
1. Materials: children’s clothing is required to be made of non-toxic and safe materials and does not contain substances that are harmful to the human body
2. Design and manufacturing process: children’s clothing is required to be reasonably designed and well-made, and will not produce dangerous sharp edges
3. The edges will not produce dangerous factors such as long ropes or straps
4. Flame retardancy: children’s clothing is required to have certain flame retardant properties to prevent accidents such as fire
5. Heavy metal content: the heavy metal content in children’s clothing is required to comply with relevant standard limits to ensure that children will not ingest excessive heavy metals during use
6. Small parts safety: small parts on children’s clothing are required to comply with relevant standard requirements to ensure that children will not swallow or inhale these small parts
7. Labels and instructions: labels and instructions for children’s clothing are required to be clear, easy to understand, and contain detailed instructions on product use and maintenance
