Summary of Metal Material Testing Items

Steel is a material of a certain shape, size and performance made of steel ingots, billets or steel through pressure processing.

Most steel processing is done through pressure processing, which causes the processed steel (billets, ingots, etc.) to undergo plastic deformation.

According to the different processing temperatures of steel, it can be divided into cold processing and hot processing.

It has a wide range of applications and a wide variety of varieties.

According to the different cross-sectional shapes, steel is generally divided into four categories: profiles, plates, pipes and metal products.

It is further divided into heavy rails, light rails, large steel sections, medium steel sections, small steel sections, steel cold-bent steel sections, high-quality steel sections, wire rods, medium and thick steel plates, thin steel plates, electrical silicon steel sheets, strip steel, seamless steel pipes, welded steel pipes, metal products and other varieties.

Summary of steel types:

Fe I represents Class I steel: carbon steel

FeⅡ represents Class II steel: low alloy steel

FeIII represents Class III steel: martensitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, chromium-molybdenum steel

FeⅣ represents Class IV steel: austenitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel

Conventional testing items for steel products:

1.Common testing – chemical composition: analysis of C, S, P, Mn, Si, Cr, Ni element content

2.Common analysis – spectral analysis: photoelectric colorimetric analysis; polarographic analysis; electron probe X-ray microanalysis

3.Macroscopic inspection: determination of the organization and macroscopic defects of killed steel, continuous casting steel, boiling steel, acid leaching test, tower-shaped hairline acid leaching test, sulfur print test, fracture inspection, etc.

4.Metallographic inspection: metallographic microscope to detect the depth of decarburized layer (GB/T224 ), grain size detection, detection of non-metallic inclusions in steel, detection of chemical composition segregation in steel, etc.

5.Process performance: hardenability test, welding performance test, cutting performance test, wear test, metal bending test, metal repeated bending test, metal wire repeated bending test, metal wire torsion test, metal wire winding test, metal neck breaking test, metal cupping test, etc.

6.Physical properties testing: experimental detection of physical performance indicators in the performance inspection of metal plastic processing products. The main inspection items include magnetic properties, density, elastic modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, resistance value, etc.

7.Electrical properties: magnetic property measurement, density measurement, elastic modulus measurement, expansion coefficient measurement, resistivity measurement, etc.

8.Chemical properties: intergranular corrosion test, oxidation resistance test, atmospheric corrosion test, full immersion, inter-immersion corrosion test, etc.

9.Non-destructive testing: ultrasonic testing, magnetic testing, radiographic testing, specification and size testing, surface defect testing, etc.

10.Hardness testing: Brinell hardness, Rockwell hardness, Vickers hardness, microhardness, Shore hardness, etc.

11.Tensile testing: hardness index (specified non-proportional elongation stress, specified total elongation stress, specified residual elongation stress, yield point, tensile strength), plasticity index (elongation; cross-sectional expansion rate), high temperature creep test (creep rate, endurance strength limit, endurance elongation after fracture, endurance cross-sectional shrinkage), etc.
