In July 2023, the United States updated the sixth version of the safety standard for household power strips Relocatable Power Taps, and also updated the safety standard ANSI/UL 962A for furniture power strips Furniture Power Distribution Units. The new version of the ANSI/UL 1363 standard has the following important technical updates:
Update one:
When the charging circuit and/or secondary isolation output circuit provided by the household power strip, and the structure containing the battery charging circuit, need to consider the standard UL 62368-1, the ES and PS levels must be introduced at the same time, and must meet ES1 (energy level 1) and PS2 (Power Level 2) Parameter requirements, relevant standards can also be considered:
UL 1310 Class 2 power output requirements,
Standard UL 60950-1 LPS circuit design.
Update 2:
For products containing LED lamps or wireless charging strips, the instructions need to state that “removable power taps that provide auxiliary lighting functions are not suitable for permanent installation. Do not permanently install or unplug the plug to permanently connect to the electrical system.” The instructions are allowed to be identified by the manufacturer through the website, which can be in the form of URL – http://www.___.com/___/, or in the form of QR code. The accuracy and effective date of the manual information quoted from the web page must be confirmed.
The new version of the ANSI/UL 962A standard has the following important technical updates:
Update one:
Furniture power strip products with more than 8 positions can use UL1077 protectors that meet the breaking capacity of Table 16.1 and have 6 times the motor load parameters.
Update 2:
Installation instructions are required. The installation instructions allow the manufacturer to declare through the website, and the URL should be marked on the body or packaging. The website address can be in the form of URL – http://www.___.com/___/, or it can be in the form of QR code.
